  • Company Riggs Distler
  • Capabilities
    • Distributed Power & Data Centers
    • Electric Infrastructure
  • Completion 2023-2025

Project Overview

From 2023 to 2025, we played a key role in supporting the Revolution Wind project, the first multi-state offshore wind project in the U.S. Located approx. 15 miles south of the Rhode Island coast and 32 miles southeast of Connecticut. The project will deliver 704 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, supplying 400 MW to Rhode Island and 304 MW to Connecticut – enough to power more than 350,000 homes.

Working from the Port of Providence in Rhode Island as the Tier 1 Supplier for Secondary Steel, we supported the project through a multi-discipline approach that combined heavy civil, mechanical, and electrical expertise. The team assembled and prepared critical offshore wind components, helping advance domestic offshore wind construction while strengthening the U.S. supply chain.

Key Highlights

Our team was responsible for the construction, assembly, inspection, and onshore installation of Advanced Foundation Components (AFCs) that are a critical role to supporting offshore wind turbine foundations. In addition, we managed port operations and logistics. This work was carried out by a workforce of more than 140 union craft personnel, supported by over 20 project staff members.

Project Scope of Work Included:

  • Assembly and Preparation of 65 Sets of Advanced Foundation Components (AFCs). Each AFC Set Included:
    • Supported Internal Platforms
    • External Working Platforms
    • MP Doors
    • Anode Cages
  • Managed Port Operations and Logistics, Including Coordination and Execution of Load-Out Operations to Support Offshore Installation

Challenges and Results

Through careful planning, innovative safety protocols, and close collaboration across trades, our team completed the AFC work with zero modifications required after turnover. During the 2024 Rhode Island State of the State Address, Gov. Dan McKee recognized our union workers from IBEW Local 99, Laborers Local 271, and Ironworkers Local 37 for their contributions to advancing the state’s offshore wind industry.
