Infrastructure and Utility Construction Capabilities

Centuri is a North American leader in utility construction, partnering with regulated utilities, municipalities, and industrial operators to build and maintain the infrastructure and utilities that keep power, gas, and data flowing 24/7. With operating roots that stretch back 115 years and a workforce of 8,600+ craft professionals supported by more than 13,000 fleet assets, we combine local agility with the resources of the #2 firm on Engineering-News Record’s Top-600 Utility list. Our promise is simple yet ambitious: Connecting People to Power. We do so safely, reliably, and with an eye on the next generation of energy solutions.

Centuri’s holistic service portfolio supports our customers’ ever-increasing energy and infrastructure demands while surpassing today’s safety benchmarks. Our BLS Industry Comparison TRIR & DART safety scores outperform industry averages, demonstrating our commitment to the resources and training needed to achieve world-class safety.

Centuri constructs and maintains every link of the modern grid, from 500 kV transmission corridors in the Rockies to energized distribution rebuilds along the Jersey Shore. Recent highlights include a 16-mile mountain-terrain transmission rebuild in Colorado, executed with CH-47 helicopter pole transportation and multi-agency coordination.

Infrastructure

Our gas teams install and rehabilitate high-pressure transmission mains, distribution pipelines, regulator stations, and cathodic protection systems. We offer a full-service stack, from engineering, permitting, and right-of-way acquisition to operations and maintenance. In construction, our capabilities include civil works, trenchless technologies like horizontal directional drilling (HDD), cross compression, and compressor stations. Examples of recent works include the 18-mile Kokomo Fusion steel pipeline, fueling a $2.5 billion EV battery plant. Long-term utility construction programs like Utah’s Feeder-Line replacement (1.3 million feet of new pipe installed) prove our depth in major, multi-year initiatives.

Distributed Power, Renewable & Industrial

Centuri’s renewable arm delivers turnkey renewable energy construction services—solar and wind, renewable natural gas (RNG) systems and pipelines, EV-charging infrastructure, and battery storage. Although the U.S. has a cumulative renewable energy capacity of 430GW, more expansion is needed to achieve net zero (BloombergNEF, 2024). With our track record, we are helping utilities capture this opportunity. For example, Centuri installed the 20 MWh Andover BESS in New Jersey, sequencing work around supply-chain delays to hit the in-service date and boost peak resilience for this project.

Infrastructure

Centuri minimizes surface disruption while future-proofing communities, whether they use horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to install fiber or electric cables beneath major waterways or replace aging water mains. Our underground distribution capabilities won the NECA 2024 Project Excellence Award for Transportation/Infrastructure. We have also emerged as a leader in infrastructure upgrades to support cloud and AI workloads.

Emergency Response & Storm Maintenance

Extreme weather is the new normal, and utilities need partners who can mobilize fast. Centuri’s emergency response maintains real-time visibility of crews and equipment across 44 states and four Canadian provinces, allowing deployment within hours. Our crews have participated in multiple storm response efforts, such as Hurricane Helene— a testament to our rapid-response ethos.

Our Approach to Construction

  1. Plan & Survey: We obtain all necessary regulatory permits before project commencement. In design, we apply GIS-enabled route selection, digital twin modeling, and constructability reviews to mitigate cost and schedule risk.
  2. Mobilize & Install: Crews mobilize our specialty equipment and certified welders, linemen, and operators to self-perform the work, supported by union or open-shop labor to match regional needs.
  3. Test & Commission: New electrical systems tests, hydrostatic pressure tests, and SCADA platforms validate asset integrity before commissioning.
  4. Restore: We restore sites to the original or better condition through vegetation management, hydroseeding, or hard surface restoration.
  5. Maintain: Post construction, we conduct inspection, quality checks, right-of-way maintenance, and overhead and underground maintenance for gas and electric assets such as substations and distribution lines.

Integrated Project Management & Technology

Centuri uses cloud-based platforms to unify schedules, costs, and field data. Engineers create AutoCAD models that integrate GIS mapping, then push approved designs into our cloud Customer Work Management Information System (WMIS). Field personnel capture as-built data, geotagged photos, and electronic permits, and log them into FOMS. Automated validations flag gaps, analytics optimize resources, while client dashboards enable same-day approvals. The result is fewer change orders, faster close-outs, and transparent collaboration with clients and regulators.

Safety & Quality Commitment

Centuri’s Think SAFE behavior-based program and our BLS-based safety benchmarks ensure everyone goes home safely. Thousands of training hours and the use of certified technicians only reinforce our sustainable safety culture. Indeed, while the national TRIR benchmark stands at 2.4 (BLS, 2024), multiple Centuri projects like the Toronto high-pressure pipeline had zero recordable incidents.

Why Choose Centuri?

  • Scale & Stability: Coast-to-coast footprint, NYSE-listed (CTRI) public markets financial strength, and average customer relationships of 24 years.
  • Union / Non-Union Flexibility: Labor adaptability supports regional requirements without compromising craft quality.
  • Rapid Mobilization: Proven ability to marshal crews and asset fleets for storms, wildfires, and critical outages.
  • Innovation Leadership: Early adopter of LiDAR-enabled design and engineering, GIS-driven work packages, digital twins, and data analytics.
