In 2025, we were contracted to complete a substation expansion project at the Stoker Substation in Tolleson, Arizona. This substation expansion marked the successful completion of the first project under a new substation maintenance agreement with an electric utility company, setting a strong foundation for the partnership.

  • Installation of a 3rd 69kV Transformer and Switchgear
  • Installation of a 69kV Bus Tie Breaker
  • Installation of Foundations, Conduit, and Grounding
  • Installation of all Steel, Above Grade Electrical Equipment, Bus & Jumpers, Grounding, and Control Cable

Challenges and Results

The work presented a high level of complexity due to the constrained location, limited construction footprint, and the need for precise coordination with the utility’s distribution maintenance crews to safely execute multiple feeder cutovers while maintaining system reliability. Through detailed planning, close collaboration with the owner, and disciplined field execution, the team navigated these challenges effectively, completing critical scope safely and efficiently while minimizing operational impacts and delivering a high-quality result that reinforced trust and positioned the program for continued success. As a result, the substation expansion provides the utility additional load capabilities for new emerging customers.
