Project Overview

In 2025, in Arizona, we completed the installation of two poles and two spans of 230kV conductor as part of the Pediment Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) 230kV Interconnection project.

Project Scope of Work Included:

  • Engineering, Procurement, and Installation of the Transmission Line
  • Installed Single 230kV Transmission Line System for Pediment BESS 1
  • Connected the Existing Browning Substation to the Pediment BESS 1 Substation Using Steel Monopole Structures
  • Designed the Transmission Line to Carry Up to 500MW, Accounting for Both Pediment BESS 1 and 2
  • Installed the First Dead-End Structure Outside the Pediment BESS 1 Substation (Structure 1)
  • Installed the Point of Change of Ownership Structure (Structure 2)
  • Pulled in Double Optical Ground Wires (OPGWs)

Challenges and Results

The project was completed on schedule and within budget. Its successful completion enabled the BESS to connect to the regional transmission grid, ensuring reliable power transfer and system integration.
