Project Overview
From 2011 to 2024, we served as the primary contractor for the System Upgrade for Reliable Energy (SURE) project, a 14-year natural gas distribution system modernization effort in the Portland and Westbrook, Maine areas. The aim was to create a safer more reliable system to meet the growing energy demands of southern Maine.
Key Highlights
Beginning in 2011, we replaced a total of 668,988 feet of pipe over 14 years working within municipal streets around all other existing utilities. Some of this pipe was more than 100 years old.
This multi-year project was one of the area’s largest, most aggressive capital improvement initiatives, and required the cooperation and understanding of numerous stakeholders across the public and private sectors. At its peak, the project had 8-10 full time crews.
The project remained on schedule despite disruptions including the global pandemic. Strong coordination with municipal officials and the team’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety and quality standards ensured that progress continued without compromising worker or community safety.
