Connecting To a Mission-Critical Hub: Data Center Alley
Located in Maryland
- Capabilities
- Distributed Power, Renewable & Industrial
- Electric Infrastructure
- Natural Gas Infrastructure
- Underground Infrastructure
- Completion 2023
Project Overview
As demand for AI, cloud services, and digital infrastructure continues to surge, the need for greater fiber bandwidth and low-latency connectivity is rising alongside it. Industry forecasts project that U.S. metro fiber mileage will double by 2030, while global internet traffic is expected to reach 1,500 exabytes per month by 2029, largely driven by AI workloads and hyperscale data centers. Notably, the average hyperscale facility consumes up to ten times more bandwidth than a traditional enterprise site. To meet these demands, developers must deploy extensive, future-ready fiber networks capable of supporting high-speed, reliable, and data-intensive applications. In 2023, we were selected to install 16 miles of fiber conduit connecting a data center in Maryland to Northern Virginia’s Data Center Alley—one of the most mission-critical interconnection hubs in the world.
Key Highlights
We were chosen for the job based on our experience in managing difficult terrain, expertise in open-cut methods and horizontal direction drilling (HDD), specialized tooling capabilities, expansive fleet, and proven track record for environmental and community responsibility.
