Project Overview

In 2025, at the Grove at West Street Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) railroad crossing, we executed a rock Jack & Bore installation to place a new 16” steel casing beneath an active rail. The work required full excavation support with sheet piles and slide rail, protection of adjacent utilities, precise bore pit alignment, casing welding, and boring under live rail with zero tolerance for ground movement.

  • Continuous Casing Fit-Up and Weld Sequencing in the Pit

  • Real-Time Adjustments to Boring Parameters as Field Conditions Changed

Challenges and Results

This project was extremely complex with rock conditions, stakeholder coordination, active rail overhead, changing field conditions, and delays outside of the team’s control. Despite difficulties, our crew successfully managed every aspect of the work and as a result executed a completed Jack & Bore installation safely.
