Project Overview

In 2025, we completed the rerouting of two 345kV lines and the expansion of a 230/500kV tie on the west end of Tortolita Substation in Tucson, AZ. Completed in three months, the project involved a small but highly technical scope on two large 500kV lines, including a variety of specialized activities.

Project Scope of Work Included:

  • Relocation of (4) 500kV Structures: X1401, X1402, X1405, and X1406
  • Transfer and Installation of Double-Bundle 2156 KCMIL Bluebird ACSR Conductor, 7/16” Steel Static Wire, 96-Count Fiber OPGW
  • Installation of Two Single-Circuit 500kV Structures and Two 230kV Structures

Challenges and Results

Despite challenges such as porting conductors into the ground to remove wire from existing towers for reuse, and dismantling and relocating the towers, the project was safely completed with no incidents and on schedule.
